movie - director : akira - katsuhiro otomo

here are a bunch of screenshots from akira. it came out in 1988 and is one of the most acclaimed anime film. hadn't seen it since i was around 12 years old. anyway, it's really far out and pretty violent. i don't know how to summarise the plot briefly so i hope the screenshots help (even though i know they offer no insight whatsoever).

artist - album : of montreal - skeletal lamping

this looks so tripped out next to municipal waste. anyways, skeletal lamping came out some time last year. i haven't really listened to them in a couple of years. it's kind of funked out pop music.

here are "beware our nubile miscreants" and "id engager":

artist - album : municipal waste - hazardous mutation

recently i've been getting pretty into thrash. i never had heard of municipal waste before and kind of stumbled upon them yesterday. long story short, they're totally rad. rad. they started around 2001 and are still goin'. 'hazardous waste' was released in 2005 and clocks 15 tracks in around 25 minutes. shit's so fast. anyway, they've got a bunch of gigs listed over at www.myspace.com/municipalwaste and are playin' over at the blender theater in nyc on the 9th of december. tickets are around $50 though. bummer.

here's "unleash the bastards":

movie - director : surf ninjas - neal israel

rob schneider is neither funny nor acceptable. surf ninjas manages to be a really awesome film despite containing rob schneider. it lives up to it's name and includes both surfing and ninjas. it's an adventure family film about two brothers and their 'destiny'. anyway, it's cool.

here's the trailer:

artist - album : unseemly girl - large monkeys

unseemly girl is a collaboration between myself and graham carlow. graham is the drummer of one of my favourite bands david devant and his spirit wife. our debut recording, large monkey, is comprised of three tracks:

1. movable tree (graham - guitar)
2. five horses and a mirror ( graham - guitar : james - drums)
3. italian verse (james - guitar : graham - drums)

it's lo-fi and kind of weird. anyway, it's free and available here, hope you like it:

artist - album : big l - the big picture

ignore the weird cover, harlem's big l is rad. he only put out one record while he was alive, 'lifestylez ov da poor & dangerous'. 'the big picture' came out one year after he was killed. he has a killer nyc flow and sick beats. if you're into east coast hip-hop and not already into big l, get into him. ''98 freestyle' was live on the radio, that's how good he is, come on.

big l - ebonics:

artist - album : television - marquee moon

i think i was 12 when my godfather gave me this record, i also think i left it in the back of my closet for a couple if years in favour of slipknot and lynyrd skynyrd. guess i kind of fucked up. anyway, television where big in the mid 70s new york cbgb's scene alongside talking heads, patti smith, ramones, blondie.... they were weirder than all them though, predominantly post-punk yet 'jazzy'. the same year bassist richard hell put out blank generation with his other band the voidoids, that's also a sick cut.
